Sri Lanka, also known as the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean', is a wonderful place to explore with a family.

From the Cultural Triangle to the tea plantations, to the national parks to the sandy beaches, Sri Lanka is a territory of wonders waiting to be discovered! On this eight-day trip, you'll travel from the coastal town of Negombo to the heart of the hill country, Kandy, through the countryside to Nuwara Eliya and through the mountains and tea plantations of Haputale.

You'll complete your family holiday in Sri Lanka in the town of Unawatuna where you can relax in four-star luxury and visit the colonial town of Galle.

Day 1

Your driver will pick you up at the airport and drive you to your first destination, Negombo. Upon arrival, you'll check in and enjoy a free day in Negombo. Why not go for a boat trip in the mangrove of Muthurajawela or on the Dutch canal? As you slide along the water in the channels lined with lush vegetation, you are accompanied by birds, cormorants, egrets, monkeys and monitor lizards. Sometimes, even a crocodile might surprise you!

A Day in Kandy

Today during your family holiday in Sri Lanka, you'll have time to explore Kandy and its surroundings. You'll have the morning free to get acquainted with the city on your own before you attend a traditional Kandyan Dance Show in the afternoon and discover the different traditional dances and costumes as well as a demonstration of walking on fire. In the evening, you'll visit the Temple of the Tooth, a sacred temple that contains the most important Buddhist relic in the country.

Today, you'll travel to Haputale via the scenic hills of Nuwara Eliya. Often nicknamed "Little England", Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful mountain resort that has kept a "colonial British" atmosphere intact with traditional-looking houses. The cooler climate of Nuwara Eliya is particularly enjoyable as a break from the heat of the rest of the country. You'll then continue your journey from Nuwara Eliya to Haputale, a small town ideally located amidst the tea plantations.

Today, you'll set off in a traditional tuk-tuk for a ride through Haputale and its mountains and tea plantations. You take an alluring road, lined with beautiful trees such as tulip trees of Gabon and eucalyptus while the tea plantations stretch out as far as the eye can see. Along the way, you stop at a mosque, visit the majestic Hindu temples and a small local village. At the Lipton Seat Lookout, with a cup of tea in your hand, you enjoy a fabulous panorama of the mountain.

Today, you'll travel from Haputale to Unawatuna by road. Upon arrival, you'll have the rest of the day free to enjoy the beautiful beach and the facilities offered by your four-star hotel. You can take a nap on your sunbed under the palm trees, sip a fresh fruit juice watching the pristine water, go for a walk along the sandy beach or swim in the Indian Ocean. Approaching the end of your trip, this is the perfect time to relax.

Today, you'll travel the short journey to Galle. Take this opportunity to visit the colonial Dutch Fort and after visiting the ramparts, you take the time to stroll through the alleys of the old town whose ambience evokes that of a medieval European city. Cafes, restaurants, craft shops and artists' studios contribute to the liveliness and charm of the old city. You can also go cycling around Galle and explore its villages and ride amidst the rice fields to witness rural Sri Lanka!
