Overview
Travel in luxury and style through the Australian Outback on The Ghan train.
Starting in Adelaide, you'll board the Ghan train that takes you through the Red Centre with stops in the most iconic sites like Katherine, Alice Springs and Cooper Pedy to get a feel for this remote corner of the world.
You'll watch the sunrise and the sunset over the endless arid red landscape. However, if you really want to experience this landscape, you can opt for a hot air balloon over Uluru to capture the magic.
Arriving in NT's capital Darwin, you'll have a day to delve further into the Aboriginal culture at Kakadu National Park where you can explore in nature and visit some ancient rock art. Back in the city, you'll have time to find yourself back in the urban world before you leave!

Day 2
Board the Ghan Expedition Train Through the Outback

Departing Adelaide, what lies ahead is rugged, beautiful and spectacular as you board The Ghan Train through the Red Centre to the tropical north of Australia. Before long, some of the oldest rock formations in the world, the Flinders Ranges, come into view as we venture further into the Outback. As darkness envelops the rugged terrain, it’s time to indulge in a multi-course regionally-inspired dinner and sip on fine wines.

Enter the Northern Territories and the Red Centre

Begin with a freshly brewed coffee or juice as you take in the stunning sunrise in the outback of South Australia. All aboard the Ghan train for brunch as you make your way into the Northern Territories through the MacDonnell Ranges to Alice Springs where a selection of off-train experiences await. Alice is an iconic Red Centre outpost – home to doctors who fly, rivers that run dry and a cast of colourful characters.

Day 4
Explore Katherine and Arrive in Darwin

Your final day onboard The Ghan train dawns as you head towards the tropical north. In Katherine, cruise Nitmiluk Gorge, learn more about Indigenous rock paintings and culture or learn a few working-dog tricks on an off-train experience among the gorges. As evening falls, arrive in Darwin to complete your epic Australian train journey. You'll have the evening to explore Darwin at your leisure. Your transfer will take you to your accommodation the Rydges Darwin or Similar.

Kakadu Day Trip

Kakadu National Park has a landscape of exceptional beauty and diversity. Mangrove fringed coasts blend into expansive flood plains, lowland hills and sandstone escarpments interrupt open woodland and forest habitats. Travel across Adelaide River and Marrakai Plains deep into Kakadu National Park and visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre to learn about Aboriginal traditions in Kakadu. After a lunch stop at Nourlangie Rock, walk around to see the rock art before returning to Darwin.

A Free Day in Darwin

As the capital of the Top End, Darwin boasts a magic mix of being surrounded by ancient national parks and urban luxury. Spend your day at one of Darwin's many beaches and enjoy the tropical heat of the north or take a break from the heat to gorge on the food that the city is known for. If being outdoors in the heat of the city is not for you, there are many museums that are dedicated to the Aboriginal cultures of NT that warrant wandering.
