Overview
New Zealand's premier adrenaline-fuelled activity hub will welcome you for seven thrilling days lakeside on this self-drive alpine adventure!
With a short break to explore Wanaka and all this wonderful lakeside destination has to offer, you'll be spending the majority of your trip exploring Queenstown in your own rental car.
The picture-perfect town is surrounding by rocky mountains supplying endless hiking trails or skiing runs, depending on the season. There's also an abundance of wineries, gondola rides, thrilling boating adventures, bungee jumping and so much more.
A highlight of your trip will be the full-day tour to the stunning Milford Sound with a nature cruise through its mirror-like waters looking out for wildlife.

Welcome to Queenstown

Today, you'll arrive at Queenstown international airport and collect your Hertz rental car before the short drive to Queenstown. The alpine resort of Queenstown is exciting and fantastically attractive. It’s the place to source almost any kind of adventure, including 4WD adventures, bungee, jet boating, horse trekking, rafting and river surfing. It’s also a destination for luxury experiences – gourmet food and wine, spa treatments and leisurely games of golf.

Day 2
Day at Leisure in Queenstown

Today is a day at leisure to explore Queenstown. Perhaps you can take a gondola ride to witness Queenstown’s most spectacular views! The gondola rises 450 vertical metres above Queenstown on an average incline of 37.1 degrees to the Skyline complex on Bob’s Peak. Alternatively, you can visit Arrowtown, a charming, quirky and delightful gold rush village nestled beside the sparkling Arrow River and below magnificent peaks.

Day 3
Milford Sound Coach and Cruise Tour from Queenstown

Today, you'll be up early for your coach and cruise tour to Milford Sound. Upon boarding your luxury coach in Queenstown, you'll travel along the shores of Lake Wakatipu and through the rolling countryside. This is considered one of the most beautiful drives in the world. Accompanied by a nature guide, you'll join an extended and leisurely cruise of Milford Sound to the Tasman Sea on the Milford Mariner or Milford Wanderer. Keep a lookout for wildlife including seals, dolphins and penguins.

Scenic Drive to Lake Wanaka via Cardrona Hotel

Today, you'll drive a leisurely 71 kilometres to Lake Wanaka. On the way, be sure to stop in at the late 19th-century Cardrona Hotel, a reminder of the Otago gold rush era. Your new home for two nights is Oakridge Resort Lake Wanaka, a hotel set in a stunning mountain landscape offering spectacular views of New Zealand’s Southern Alps. From the hotel, you can take advantage of all the exciting adventure activities on offer in Wanaka as well as its top restaurants.

Day at Leisure in Wanaka

Today, you'll have the day free to explore the Wanaka region. If you're feeling like a spike of adrenaline will do you good, you can climb the world’s highest waterfall cable climb (via feratta) with WildWire Wānaka! After the safety checks, your expert guide will lead the way – walking over suspension bridges and scrambling up huge boulders. Be on the lookout for hidden pools before climbing up alongside a large waterfall.

Scenic Drive Back to Queenstown from Wanaka
