Arrive to Adelaide and Head North to Wilpena!

You will enjoy a scenic drive north today to South Australia's beautiful Outback.
Cradled by ancient mountain ranges on the edge of the desert, Wilpena Pound is the crowning jewel of the Flinders Ranges. Also known by its Adnyamathanha name of Ikara, meaning meeting place, Wilpena Pound rewards the intrepid.
You will stay in a beautiful safari Tent at Wilpena Pound Resort, where luxury becomes your untamed sanctuary.

Day 2
Fly Over Lake Eyre and Visit William Creek for Lunch

Today, you will enjoy excellent views of outback South Australia beginning with a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound and Brachina Gorge. You will pass over Parachilna, the Leigh Creek open-cut coal fields, the township of Marree, Muloorina Station and the awe-inspiring Lake Eyre.
After marvelling at the wonders of Lake Eyre, you will land at the remote town of William Creek for lunch (population of ten at last count). You will return via the beautiful Painted Hills, the Breakaway Country, the Andamooka opal fields and Lake Torrens.

Explore Flinders With 4WD

The fascinating geological history of the Flinders Ranges is recorded in the world renowned “Corridor Through Time”. Today, you will explore more than 100 million years of this history as well as marvelling at the rugged beauty of Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorges. You will search for Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies and enjoy sweeping views of Bunyeroo Valley and the eastern wall of Wilpena Pound.

Drive on to Parachilna and the Famous Prairie Outback Hotel

There’s not many outback places that can boast 500 million years of earth history as a talking point at the local hotel. There’s even fewer where you can sit down and chat over breakfast with a world-renown professor of palaeontology. And there’s only one place we can think of where you can dine on a ‘feral’ feast of kangaroo, emu and camel for dinner…all on the one plate.

Local Fossil Tour and Return to Adelaide.

Today, you will go on an extended Nilpena fossil tour to the active fossil research site in addition to the two-hour visitor precinct tour. You will experience the earliest evidence of complex, multicellular life on earth, with Nilpena Station pastoralist, Ross Fargher, who discovered the Nilpena fossils in 1986.
