Leave the capital and head south for about 33km, stopping at the Pachacamac ruins located in the Lurín River valley. Explore one of the largest and most important pre-Incan archaeological sites in Peru. Dedicated to the god Pachacamac, creator of the world, the site was used as a religious and administrative centre by four different cultures. After your visit, continue the drive south to reach Paracas early afternoon, a coastal village known for its beautiful beaches and wildlife

Ballestas Islands, Ica and Huacachina

Board a speedboat to the Ballestas Islands. On the way out, you pass the National Reserve of Paracas and take pictures of El Candelabro, etched into the side of a hill. Once you reach the islands, there are thousands of birds, sea lions, cormorants, pelicans and penguins. Visit Ica in the middle of the desert. You will go to the city centre and regional museum to view a collection of ceramics and mommies. On a local vineyard, you will try Pisco before ending the tour at Huacachina Oasis.

Upon arrival at the airport of Pisco, embark onto an aircraft to fly over the mysterious Nasca Lines. Some of the figures that you will appreciate are the monkey, the spider, the astronaut, the family and the hummingbird. These lines, which were scratched on the surface of the ground between 500 B.C. and A.D. 500, are among archaeology's greatest enigmas because of their quantity, nature, size and continuity. Later in the afternoon, you'll board the bus back to Lima, arriving in the evening.

This morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport for your flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the airport and driven to the hotel. In the afternoon, you'll embark on a city tour of Arequipa admiring the beautiful landscapes, fields and pre-Inca terraces. You'll visit key neighbourhoods in the city, the beautiful historical centre and finally the impressive Santa Catalina Monastery, a 20,000 metre-squared complex known as a 'City within a City'.

Approximately 160 km northwest of Arequipa is the Colca Canyon, one of the world’s deepest gorges. Here, you will drive through the Aguada Blanca National Park. Keep an eye out for herds of wild vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas. Then, reach the tour’s highest viewpoint at 4,910 metres to see the snow-capped peaks of the Misti, Ampato and Sabancaya. After lunch in Chivay, you have the option to relax at La Calera thermal baths or to visit the local market. Rest for the remainder of the day.

After an early breakfast, make your way to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint to see the depths of the canyon and try to spot Andean Condors as they fly and hunt for food. Then, explore the small towns of Maca and Yanque renowned for their small colonial churches. Visit the viewpoints of Wayra Punku, Antahuilque and Choquetico in the high Andes and see rock formations that resemble a forest of stones. You will pass through villages, the beautiful Lagunillas, and Santa Lucia before you reach Puno.

Depart from Puno’s dock to the unique Uros islands floating on Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. Meet locals who will show you their homes and islands made of reed. Every year, they replenish the islands with a new layer of reeds. Continue your journey to the island of Taquile. Be amazed by the elaborate pre-Inca terraces and. learn about the traditional lifestyles and customs based on community collectivism. On the island, men are taught to knit and women weave and yarn.

You will go from Puno to Cusco by bus. You'll stop at the highest point at La Raya, (4,319 metres), the Pucará, renowned for its pottery, Toritos de Pucará, colourful hand-painted bulls, and Pucará Stone Museum. Explore the Raqchi ruins, the best-preserved and only adobe ruins that rest on an Inca rock base. Finally, visit the Andahuaylillas Church, considered the Sistine Chapel of the Americas because of the artworks that were found inside. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant on the way.

This morning, you'll head to the station for your scenic train journey to Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu. You'll learn about its discovery and the different theories on how and why it was built, visiting the main plaza, the Temple of Three Windows, the circular tower, the sacred sundial and the burial grounds.
