On this tour, you will be covering Sri Lanka's eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other famous attractions in Sri Lanka. This will be once in a lifetime tour where you will learn about the history, culture and ancient architecture of Sri Lanka.

During this tour, you will have the opportunity to interact with the local community and experience the day to day activities of locals. Among many other highlights, you'll visit the ancient kingdoms of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, the British colonial city of Nuwara Eliya and Udawalawa National Park.

Day 1

Welcome to the Pearl of the Indian Ocean!

You will be greeted by your Sri Lankan representative at the airport and will be guided you to the car that will take you to the hotel in Negombo which is about a 30 minutes drive away. Upon arrival, you'll check into your villa and relax after your long journey. Negombo is a popular fishing village and some call this the 'Small Rome of Sri Lanka'. You will be able to explore tomorrow.

Day 2

Today, you'll start your journey to Dambulla. You will start to explore the real Sri Lanka by entering into the cultural triangle which is located in the central region of Sri Lanka. On the way, you will pass by many paddy fields and ancient man-made lakes. If you like, you can make a few stops on the way to experience a few Sri Lankan style activities. You will visit Dambulla Rock Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 1st century B.C, before arriving at your hotel in Sigiriya.

Today you can visit a rural village in Habarana to witness and experience the local way of life in Sri Lanka. You'll take a stroll through scrub jungle and experience a catamaran boat ride on a lake where you can see Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala Rock side by side. Then, you will come back to a village home and taste an authentic village cuisine prepared by the farmer. In the afternoon, you'll visit Polonnaruwa Ancient City, which is home to many untouched ancient archaeological relics.

This morning, you'll enjoy breakfast and then continue your Sri Lanka tour to discover its first Kingdom which reigned from 4th century BC to 11th century AD. It is a beautiful picturesque town located along a river bank. There is plenty to see in Anuradhapura from ancient trees like the Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest tree in the world, to ancient monasteries and ruins of historical importance. Anuradhapura is one of the eight historical heritage sites in Sri Lanka.

Climb Sigiriya Rock & Travel to Kandy

In the morning, you'll climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress before the peak hour starts. Among locals, this is known as the “eighth wonder of the world” and the fortress dates back to 477 CE situated 200 meters high from the ground. This giant UNESCO-listed rock fortress has water fountains, boulder gardens, frescos, mirror wall, relics of the castle and many more exciting monuments. In the afternoon, you will travel to Kandy, another UNESCO World Heritage City.

After breakfast, you'll travel to the hill country of Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya. Upon arrival, you'll visit a tea plantation as well as a tea factory where you will experience the tea production process and taste a pure Ceylon cup of tea at the estate itself. Nuwara Eliya is famous for its British colonial-era buildings and the cool climate. Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and you will also catch a glimpse of some rare birds here.

After breakfast, you'll proceed to Horton Plains. Today, you will do a trek in Horton Plains which is a biodiversity hot spot in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s best and most popular venue for nature reserves and eco-tourism is Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The breathtaking scenery with beautiful rolling hills with upper montane forest and wet grasslands which are home to endemic flora and fauna in Sri Lanka. After the trek, you will return to your hotel and relax.

On the way, you will visit the famous area named Ella known for its magnificent views. Udawalawe Park was opened to provide sanctuary to the wild animals displaced by the construction of a reservoir. This is the best place to see wild elephants all through the year, you may also spot leopards and jungle cats.

After scrumptious breakfast overlooking the Indian Ocean, you will be taken on a little tour of Colombo, the commercial capital city. On a brief tour, you'll drive by the Galle Face Green, Old Parliament and stop for a short break at the Dutch Hospital Complex to sip a beer and have a small snack. Afterwards, your Sri Lanka tour will be complete and you'll be taken to the airport for your departing flight.
