This adventure captures the magic of Sri Lanka in all its glory and through absorbing all of its history.

The first part of the trip takes you on a historical journey through Sri Lanka's ancient landscape where you'll discover the ancient capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa and gaze out across the miraculous conception of Sigiriya's Lion Rock Fortress.

From the ancient era to the colonial one: the next part of your journey takes you into the Hill Country, once populated with hundreds of tea plantations, you'll visit Kandy where the Temple of the Tooth relic is found and Nuwara Eliya, a town that is known for keeping the British colonial feel.

This Sri Lanka guided tour will finish with some relaxation time as you go back to the coast to relax in Bentota and learn about life on the river.

Day 1

Arrive in Negombo and Anuradhapura

Ayubowan, welcome to Sri Lanka! Your driver will pick you up at the airport and drive you to your first destination, Negombo. Enjoy a free day in Negombo. Why not go for a boat trip in the mangrove of Muthurajawela or on the Dutch canal? As you slide along the water in the channels lined with lush vegetation, you are accompanied by birds, monkeys and monitor lizards. Sometimes even a crocodile might surprise you! Late afternoon, you'll travel to Anuradhapura where you'll stay for the night.

Begin your Sri Lanka guided tour with a visit to the royal city of Anuradhapura. After centuries of oblivion, during which nature regained its rights, the French rediscovered Anuradhapura in 1817, the oldest of the royal cities which you will explore in-depth It is also possible to rent bicycles on-site if you want to explore further. Visit the sacred tree of Anuradhapura, Sri Maha Bodhi, which has been revered with the same fervour for over 2400 years. Late afternoon, we travel to Sigiriya.

From Sigiriya, we'll visit Polonnaruwa, another of the ancient royal capitals. Take your time strolling through the ruins of this impressive site full of treasures and archaeological remains. Then, you'll hop on a bicycle and set out on two wheels to explore the vast Polonnaruwa wooded park and discover the ruins further away. We'll spend the day here, then return to Sigiriya before nightfall.

This is a great way to see another side of the famous Lion's Rock, away from the crowds. Then, travel from Sigiriya into the Hill Country as you approach Kandy, your next destination. Explore Kandy, the last capital of the Sinhalese kingdom. Why not stroll around the scenic Kandy Lake or visit the market and explore the streets of the city?

A Day in Kandy

A day in Kandy and its surroundings. Attend a traditional Kandyan Dance Show and discover the different traditional dances and costumes as well as a demonstration of walking on fire. Visit the Temple of the Tooth, a sacred temple that contains the most important Buddhist relic in the country. The legend says that the tooth was stolen from the Buddha's funeral pyre and brought to Sri Lanka hidden in the hair of a princess.

Day 6

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

On your way between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, enjoy the magnificent view of the Kotamale reservoir and make a stop at the Ramboda Waterfalls. Continue on the road through the hills and sit back and enjoy the view of the misty tea plantations. Often nicknamed "Little England", Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful mountain resort that has kept a "colonial British" atmosphere intact.

From the misty mountains, you'll descend further and further until you return to Sri Lanka's coastline. Bentota, one of the oldest seaside resorts in Sri Lanka, sits on an estuary where the river meets the ocean and is the ideal place for watersports. Today, you'll arrive mid-afternoon to your beachside hotel. You'll have enough time to enjoy the last of the sunshine and perhaps watch the sunset over the sea.
