Overview
With your own car you can explore two beautiful regions of Sweden, Dalarna and Gotland. Over a week, you'll take your car through the county of Dalarna, declared by many as one of the most beautiful regions in the world which continued to inspire some of Sweden's most famous artist.
Your last stop in Sweden is Gotland Island, one of the largest in the country, famous for being one of the largest and bountiful archaeological sites in the world. While exploring the beautiful natural landscape, you'll learn a lot about the Viking era.
Finish your holiday to Sweden in the capital, Stockholm, where you can take a cruise to have a scenic end to your tour.

Arrival in Stockholm

Arrival in Stockholm according to your own itinerary. The capital of Sweden is built on 14 islands connected by old bridges and overpasses and is one of Europe’s largest and best-preserved medieval city centres. With its 750 years of history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers many well-known places of interest such as the Royal Palace, Stockholm Cathedral, the Vasa Museum and Old Town (Gamla Stan) known for its charm and for pompous royal weddings.

Drive from Stockholm to Dalarna

Start your self-drive tour north towards Dalarna (Dalecarlia). We recommend stopping at the small town of Sigtuna situated one hour north of Stockholm. Sigtuna was Sweden’s first town, founded by Viking King Eric the Victorious. Close by is Skokloster Castle, which was once the residence of one of King Gustav II Adolf’s generals, where the castle interior from the mid 17th century has been kept completely intact.

Day at Leisure in Dalarna

This day is at your own leisure to explore Dalarna. A drive along the scenic Lake Siljan including several interesting stops is recommended: Drive in the northwestern direction past Leksand and continue to Gesunda. Here you can take a gondola that brings you up to the Gesunda Mountain with panoramic views of Lake Siljan.

Drive from Tällberg to Uppsala

Drive towards Uppsala in southeastern direction. On the way we recommend stopping at the picturesque village of Sundborn, a ten-minute drive from Falun. The famous painter Carl Larsson lived here in his house “Little Hyttnäs” beside the lake with his wife Karin and their six children. Carl Larsson spent his life painting his family in his home, which is now open as a small museum.

Day 5
Drive to Nynäshamn and Ferry to Gotland Island

Today you will depart Uppsala after breakfast and head for Nynäshamn, located two-hour drive south. In Nynäshamn you will board the 3-hour ferry to Gotland, Sweden’s largest island. You will arrive to the medieval town of Visby with its city wall, winding cobblestone streets and alleys.

Free Time on Gotland Island

This day is at your own leisure to explore the island. We recommend driving north towards the remote island Fårö. You get to Fårö from Fårösund on Gotland with a free car ferry departing every 30 minutes and taking only 8 minutes. On northern Gotland and the islands of Fårö, rock formations called "Raukar" can be found.

Ferry to Stockholm

Short drive to the ferry terminal where you will embark on a 3-hour cruise to Nynäshamn. Upon arriving at the coastal town Nynäshamn head north towards Stockholm. Take an optional afternoon boat trip along Stockholm’s numerous waterways or try one of the evening dinner cruises sailing around the beautiful archipelago.
