On this seven-day tour of Morocco, you'll stay in traditional accommodation and explore villages off the beaten track. You'll visit the grand Ait Benhaddou kasbah, travel through the Sahara on a camel and relax on Agadir beach and drive along the coastal road to Essaouira.

Day 1

Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at the airport. You'll begin by unearthing the secrets of Marrakesh, starting in the medina, the old walled section of town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll marvel at the city's architectural jewels, including the soaring Koutoubia minaret. You'll then continue to the Bahia Palace, an exemplary specimen of privileged life in the 19th century. Then you'll visit Djemaa el-Fna, Marrakesh’s main square and Majorelle Garden.

Day 2

Journey to Ouarzazate

This morning, you'll journey along mountain roads and over Morocco's highest pass, Tizi n'Tichka (2,260 metres), to Ait Benhaddou on the edges of the Sahara. Perched on a hilltop and almost unchanged since the 11th century, Ait Benhaddou is one of Morocco's most iconic site. Enjoy a walk through the winding streets of the old town, making your way to the top of the hill, from where you can enjoy the views across the surrounding plains.

Day 3

Arrive in the Sahara

Join a local guide to uncover the underground Kasbah and its unique ceramic pottery industry. Leave Tamegroute behind and carry on driving to the end of the road at the frontier town of M'Hamid. From here, take a short camel ride through the dunes, where you’ll jump into 4WD vehicles. The group will reach the massive Erg Chigaga dunes in the late afternoon which is one of the world's iconic landscapes, with towering dunes up to 150 metres in height.

Travel to Taroudant

Today, you'll rejoin the minivan and venture towards the market town of Taroudant. On the journey, you’ll drive through the fertile Souss Valley, passing banana and citrus fruit plantations. Admire the 11th-century ramparts and the five monumental gates of Taroudant. Then, you'll head to Place Assarag in the heart of the city. Enjoy a tour of the souks where traditional crafts are on display featuring jewellery, leather, engraved limestone, saffron, spices and Argan oil.

After breakfast, you'll head to the city of Agadir, one of the most popular attractions in Morocco. Stroll around the bustling port where local fishermen sell their catch. Experience the souks where there is antique Berber jewellery, pottery, woodwork and other artefacts. Be sure to visit the Swiss quarter, the carpet factory and the artisan quarter, where you can watch lace-making, embroidery and leatherwork demonstrations. Experience the essence of Morocco on your tour of Agadir.

Essaouria

In the morning, you'll drive towards the coastal town of Essaouira. Its charm is undeniable, within the stone ramparts you'll find whitewashed houses with bright blue shutters, art galleries and wood workshops. This laidback artists' town is a former Portuguese trading colony and was once home to sizeable British and Jewish populations. It's still a busy fishing port and its pretty harbour is filled with tiny colourful boats which go out early every morning for the day's catch.
