Day 1
Avignon Free Time

Enjoy a stroll downtown and visit the Papal Palace, the largest in Europe. Sat on a rocky hill in Avignon, looking onto the River Rhone, the palace was built on the grounds of an Episcopal church, starting in the 12th century. As the official seat of Western Christianity in the 14th century, the medieval building became one of the most important Gothic buildings in France. Over the years, the palace has been in a constant state of restoration since it was to become a national museum in 1906.

Day 2
Van Gogh's Road
Hide details
In the afternoon, discover the ancient Roman city of Arles with a small group. Visit the fortified town as listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, home to stunning Romanesque architecture including the Arles amphitheatre. Then drive to Saint Remy de Provence where you admire Van Gogh's paintings in reality. The tour finishes by a visit to Glanum, the antique Greek and Roman city.

Pont-du-Gard, Uzès and Nîmes

With a little group and a local guide you will visit through three Roman cities: Pont-du-Gard and its famous Roman aqueduct, the beautiful town that takes you back to the Middle Ages, Uzès, and finally Nîmes, known for its impressive amphitheatre! Enjoy the spirit of these Roman towns with your private guide and finish in Aix-en-Provence, where you can explore at night.

For the last part of your trip, visit Aix-en-Provence, the capital of the region and a vibrant university city that is known for being the home and inspiration of post-impressionist painter, Paul Cezanne. In the afternoon, your private local guide will take you to the main religious and historical monuments of the town during a 2-hour tour.

Day 5
Au Revoir!

This morning, you'll enjoy your last few hours of the trip to Provence with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and perhaps a short walk in the local food market. Then you'll be driven to Aix train station where you'll continue with your onward journey. A bientôt en Provence!
