Overview

Set off from the beautiful city of Edinburgh on this four-day journey into the Highlands of Scotland!

Your Scotland trip will begin with a scenic journey to Inverness with stops along the way at Stirling Castle, Glencoe and Fort Augustus. For centuries, Stirling Castle was the most important castle in Scotland and the views from the top make it easy to see why. Once you've finished admiring castles and the mountain views from the southern tip of Loch Ness, you'll continue to Inverness.

Your second day will be all about the sights of the Highlands with Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, Cawdor Castle and Culloden being stops on your itinerary today. Your day will begin with a Jacobite Cruise of the loch, with a visit to Urquhart Castle. Later, you'll visit the 14th-century Cawdor Castle, enjoy afternoon tea at the Courtyard Café and round off the day with a visit to Culloden Battlefield.

Your third day will see your travelling through the Cairngorms National Park stopping to admire the Queen's View, taste a tipple in Pitlochry and visit Scone Palace on the way back to Edinburgh. Your final night will be spent at the fabulous Dalhousie Castle, a magnificent 13th-century fortress.

Day 1

This morning, you'll start your journey into the Highlands. You'll travel north to Stirling, with its imposing position in the centre of the country, stopping at Stirling Castle. For centuries this was the most important castle in Scotland and the views from the top make it easy to see why. You'll then continue north to reach the most scenically beautiful of all Highland glens, Glencoe, and then Fort Augustus, on the southern tip of Loch Ness. From Loch Ness, it's a short drive to Inverness.

This morning, you will hop over to the Clansman Harbour, for a Jacobite Cruise to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains from the loch. You'll alight at Urquhart Castle where you will have the chance to explore before cruising back up the loch. Then, you'll visit the 14th-century Cawdor Castle, enjoy afternoon tea at the Courtyard Café and round off the day with a visit to Culloden Battlefield. On the way back to your hotel, you can visit Clava Cairns and Culloden Viaduct.

Today you'll return south, through Cairngorms National Park. You'll stop to visit Queen's View, the stunning view across Loch Tummel to the Munro, Schiehallion is one of the most famous in Scotland. You'll then continue into the Highland resort town of Pitlochry, built on Victorian tourism, to Blair Athol Distillery. Your final visit is to Scone Palace, the coronation site of Scottish Kings, and your final night will be spent at the fabulous Dalhousie Castle, a magnificent 13th-century fortress.
