Mandalay, the capital of Myanmar's last kingdom, is situated in Central Myanmar and lies 668 km north of Yangon. It lies on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River and is the largest city after Yangon and was established in 1857. It is well known for it's beauty and charm with a fascinating history. We will see traditional handicrafts, silverware, a huge Buddha image (Maharmuni) and taste local food.
An amazing time to be in Myanmar at Thingyan, Burmese New Year Festival and usually falls around mid-April. It is a Buddhist festival celebrated over a period of four to five days, culminating in the New Year. The dates of the Thingyan Festival are calculated according to the Burmese calendar.
