Overview

Annapurna Base Camp is one of the most sought-after trekking routes in Nepal due to the massive and mesmerising views of Annapurna Mountain (8091 metres), boisterously poised in the northern fraction of central Nepal. It is the 10th highest mountain in the world!

Think of splendid waterfalls, pinky rhododendron bushes, neat farmlands, soothing vista of the tallest mountain all through this trek. So, get ready for this electrifying adventure amidst one of the most fascinating landscapes on earth.

The Annapurna trekking tour commences from Nayapul in Pokhara. The sight of golden sunrise from these mountain ranges is an incredible scene. The trail traverses several Gurung and Thakali villages giving you opportunity to explore the rich local culture.

As you move forward on the expedition you will pass through deep gorges, rich bamboo and rhododendron forests, narrow forest trails and beautiful mountain vistas before finally arriving at Machhapucchre and Annapurna Base Camp.

Day 1

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you'll be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel in the city. After settling in, you'll head out on a half-day sightseeing tour of the key sights in the city. In the evening, you'll head to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner with your guide.

Today, you'll take a morning flight to Pokhara. It is only a 25-minute flight, then you will set your feet in one of the most appealing cities of Nepal. Your transport vehicle will drive you from the airport to Nayapul. Adjust your backpacks and then embark on the downhill route through the forests for about six hours. You'll arrive in Ghandruk by mid-afternoon.

Day 4

Trek from Ghandruk to Chhomrong

Resuming your trek from Ghandruk, you'll embark on the uphill route to Ghandrukot for about an hour and then take an immediate descent to the Kimran Khola (river). You'll eventually reach Chhomrong, which is the gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, and lies tucked at the very base of Himal Chuli. You'll stay the night at Chhomrong guesthouse.

Trek from Chhomrong to Dovan

Trailing along the Modi Khola river, you say good-bye to the people of the foothills of Chhomrong. You'll cross a suspension bridge and head to Sinuwa Danda. From here, you embark on a seemingly flatter trail picketed with rhododendron bushes alongside and make an ascent to Khuldighar. What a bumpy trek it is! The route again slides very steeply down a rocky bank, then to your relief, flattens out, running through bamboo bunches and rhododendron forests, finally getting you to Dovan.

Today, you'll descend from Dovan to the Modi Khola River which takes around 5 hours. Then, the trail goes gradually uphill to Deurali at 1790 metres. Here, you'll be rewarded with great views of the Giant Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Mountain ranges.

Today a tough day, but the toil definitely pays off when you get to behold the mesmerising site of Fishtail Mountain. Commencing your trek to the Machhapuchchre Base Camp, you make your way up a river bed and then follow the steep route alongside the mountain. As said earlier, although the hike is comparatively scratchy, you will be compensated by the soothing vistas of Mt. Himchuli, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Gangapurna and the very classic, Mt. Fishtail.

This tow to three hours of the trek takes you through the sans vegetation and you can see the snow streams here and there. You follow the wide route into the Annapurna Sanctuary and then ascend few huts alongside a moraine which gets us to the Base Camp of Annapurna. From here, you can relish the unobstructed mountainous panorama of Annapurna, Himchuli and Machhapuchchre. This region receives seven hours of sunlight a day and hence has a diverse ecosystem.

The ascents are all over and now you will get to make your way back following the downhill routes through the Machhapuchchre Base Camp, Deurali and Dovan till you arrive at Bamboo. On the way, you get to relish the views of waterfalls, Mt. Fishtail and Himchuli.

Day 10

Trek from Bamboo to Jhinu Danda

Today, you'll trek from Bamboo to Jhinu Danda Hot Spring Pool (1790 metres) which takes 4 hours. The trek starts on terraced millet farms and steep trek downhill to the Modi River. In the bamboo forest, you might see beautiful birds, butterflies and colourful flowers. From here gradually uphill for 2 hours along the Modi River, where you have the best chance to see Langoor, wild goats. After lunch, you'll have a unique experience when you relax at the natural hot spring pool in Jhinu Danda.

Though most of your return path is an easy descend, you are circumvented by trivial ascends at times. Crossing the suspension bridge over the Modi Khola river gets you to the village of Landrung. You advance further, passing through Tokla and then making a slight ascent to Bichkok Deurali, which offers a splendid view of Mt Dhaulagiri. From here, you trail down to Pothana, a charming cluster of good hotels.

Today your trek leads you gradually descending to another small settlement called Pothana. You will also be leaving the beautiful mountains behind you arriving at Phedi (950 metres) at lunchtime. The trek takes around 3 hours. You'll then hop in a transfer and make your way to Pokhara where you'll stay overnight.

After breakfast, you'll have a little more time in Pokhara to do some shopping before you leave. You'll be transferred to the airport for your 25-minute flight to Kathmandu. From here, you'll be taken to your hotel and then you'll have the rest of the day free to spend as you wish. The designated tourist hub of Kathmandu, Thamel is a quarter of the city that is alive, thriving and filled with everything from shopping essentials to quaint hole-in-the-wall bars that are begging to be enjoyed.
