Embark on a journey around the most stunning parts of southern Italy on this two-week Rome, Amalfi Coast and Puglia tour!

Beginning in Rome, you'll explore the finest monuments of this historic city before moving on to Naples where you'll spend a large part of your trip exploring the ancient city of Pompeii, the island of Capri and the stunning Amalfi Coast.

After Naples, you'll move onto your Puglia tour during which you'll explore the towns of Lecce, Ostuni and Alberobello. After falling in love with the heel of the boot of Italy, you'll travel to the stunning coastal city of Salerno before returning to Rome!

Day 1

Your private driver will collect you from the airport and take you to the city centre where you'll check into your hotel for the next day. Your accommodation is close to the Colosseum so once you've dropped your bags and settled in, you'll head out on a tour of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - all iconic monuments of this ancient city.

This morning, you'll enjoy a guided tour of the Vatican Museum and the splendid Sistine Chapel, home of a beautiful ceiling painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512 - a masterpiece of High Renaissance art. Then for lunch, you'll make your own pizza and eat it! In the afternoon, you can take a walk in one of the most vibrant areas of Rome, Trastevere, a maze of small streets and squares dotted by bars and restaurants. In the early evening, you'll catch a train to Naples.

Today, you'll sail from Castellammare di Stabia to go to explore Amalfi and Positano, stunning cliffside villages well known for their pebble beachfront and narrow stone streets flanked by boutique shops and pavement cafes. Several villas built by the ancient Romans can be found in Positano close to the Church dell'Assunta. Amalfi dates back to the time of the struggle between the Romans and the barbarian population and is a wonderful town to explore.

This morning after a hearty breakfast, you will venture out on a full-day excursion to Pompeii and Ercolano - two ancient Roman cities. After a guided tour of Pompeii exploring the history of the Roman cities, you'll take a walk in the well-preserved fishing town of Ercolano. You'll return to Naples in the afternoon then the evening will be free for you to explore the city's exciting streets and eateries with recommendations from your guide if needed.

Today after breakfast, you'll head out to Capri by boat to visit both villages on the island, Anacapri and Capri (named after the island itself). Here, you'll enjoy free time to wander through the small towns with their picturesque landscapes, breathtaking views and rich culture. You'll return to Naples in the afternoon and enjoy some downtime in the evening after an adventurous day.

Lecce is often referred to as the 'Florence of the south' due to its abundance of historical monuments. In the afternoon, you'll enter the home of Matilda to learn the art of pasta-making and to learn by Leece is renowned for its outstanding gastronomy.

Otranto is renowned for its 15th-century Aragonese Castle and the beautiful 11th-century Otranto Cathedral. On the harbour, you can climb the Torre Matta Tower to be greeted with panoramic views of the sea. Otranto has a rich and vibrant past as a Greek settlement, a Roman port and later being ruled by the Byzantines, the Normans and the Aragonese. Otranto manages to preserve its ancient atmosphere which you can enjoy as you stroll its maze of alleyways and whitewashed buildings.

Ostuni is known as the White City because of the characteristic colour of its houses. The historic centre of Ostuni, defined by its inhabitants "La Terra", was once entirely painted with white lime, which is only partly preserved today. The houses climb on the steep slopes of a hill and the village is characterised by winding streets, a succession of small squares, alleys and courtyards. After exploring Ostuni, you'll continue to Alberobello to stay in one of the quaint Trullo houses.

Today, you'll continue your Puglia tour to Alberobello, a small UNESCO World Heritage inland village renowned for its historic centre of interesting white cone-roofed houses which have made its landscape unique and one of the most interesting in Italy. These limestone dwellings are remarkable examples of prehistoric buildings in this region. They feature two layers of walls to provide insulation, a gutter system to collect rainwater and fireplaces and ovens built into the walls.

Within the historic centre of the city, you can learn about its history through its medieval churches and local trattorias.

In the morning, you'll catch the bus to Vietri sul Mare, near Salerno. The local artcraft is maiolica, a type of pottery used all over the world to decorate kitchens and bathrooms. This morning, you'll attend a clay workshop before having some free time to explore Vietri sul Mare. Later, you'll catch the bus to the train station and then catch a train back to Rome, where you began this wonderful Amalfi Coast and Puglia tour.
