Overview

Embark on the adventure of a lifetime, and spend 12 days in Vietnam and Cambodia, two of the most awe-inspiring countries in South East Asia.

You'll start your trip in the South of Vietnam, with a visit to thriving Ho Chi Minh City with a day trip out to the intriguing Cu Chi Tunnels and baffling Cao Dai Temple - the perfect balance of culture and history in one go.

Moving further south, you'll board a luxury cruise and sail along the Mighty Mekong River to Phnom Penh, learning a little more about river life along the way. Spend your days discovering the capital city of Cambodia, learning about the cruel history of Khmer Rouge and be introduced to the ancient world of Angkor.

You'll continue your journey north to learn a little more, as you approach the world famous Angkor in Siem Reap. You will have a few days to deeply understand the epic cultural impact that the Khmer Empire left in Siem Reap as you venture from temple to temple to snatch a glimpse of life during the days of Angkor.

With all the key attractions of two countries in one trip, this is really a great experience, giving you a real insight into both Vietnam and Cambodia.

In the morning, you'll drive outside of Ho Chi Minh City to visit the incredible Cu Chi Tunnels. An underground labyrinth of passageways used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, the tunnels are iconic to the south. Then, you'll continue to Cao Dai Great Temple: a mixture of Asian and European architectures, the temple represents a fusion of the best of Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Islam. Visitors are welcome to go inside the temple to observe the colourful service at midday.

Today, you'll enjoy a tour of the Reunification Palace, the former presidential palace that is now preserved as a museum, before continuing to the 19th century ‘Notre-Dame’ cathedral and the beautiful Central Post Office; both fine examples of classical French colonial architecture. In the afternoon, you'll visit the War Remnants Museum and the bustling Ben Thanh Market to shop and to try some local food.

You'll join the Mekong Cruise team at noon and transfer to My Tho to embark on a luxury cruise, marking the beginning of your fascinating journey exploring the Mekong. A lunch buffet is served in the restaurant while the vessel steadily glides upstream to reach the overnight spot. The afternoon allows you to relax on your private balcony or join tea time at the open-air bar as the twilight bathes the land of Mekong Delta into a golden haze.

This morning's tour takes you to Cai Be, host to a small floating market for boat-to-boat trading of local goods such as fruits and agricultural products. After lunch on board, you'll have some time for yourself to enjoy a true Vietnamese coffee at the bar and watch the life on the riverbanks floating by. In the afternoon, you'll arrive in Sa Dec, where you'll embark on a traditional sampan and head towards Binh Thanh Island.

The tour around Chau Doc allows you to experience the pleasant, slow-paced town with a sizeable Chinese, Kinh and Khmer community. Once on shore, you'll hop on a “xe loi” –a local vehicle which is still used as a taxi– to explore Chau Doc. Back on your boat, you'll sail towards the Vietnamese-Cambodian border. You'll get ready for a fascinating and leisurely cruise through the deep Cambodia countryside towards Phnom Penh.

Your 12 days in Vietnam and Cambodia continues today. You'll arrive at Phnom Penh pier, where you'll meet your guide and head to your hotel. You'll enjoy a half-day city tour of Phnom Penh to visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. You'll also visit the National Museum where you can see the world’s most wondrous collection of Khmer sculpture. Then, you'll continue to Wat Phnom where the Khmers like to pray for luck. This evening, you'll enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant.

Today, you'll take an excursion to Tonle Batie, which is 40 kilometres from Phnom Penh, and visit a pair of the old Angkorian-era temples of Ta Prohm and Yeay Poev. In the afternoon, you'll visit the harrowing Tuol Sleng Museum before continuing to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek where prisoners from Security Prison 21 were taken for execution. It is grim afternoon, but essential for understanding just how far Cambodia has come in the intervening years.

This morning, you'll take a short flight to Siem Riep. Upon arrival, your guide will take you to your hotel before visiting the World Wonder, Angkor Wat. You'll start with the Southern Gate of Angkor Thom and the unique temple of Bayon, a collection of 54 Gothic towers decorated with 216 coldly smiling, enormous faces glaring down from every angle. Then, you'll go to to the Baphoun temple, the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King.

Today, you'll explore the enchanting temple of the Banteay Srei, the jewel in the crown of Angkorian art. Banteay Srei means ‘Citadel of the Women’. In the afternoon, you'll visit the Banteay Samre, which dates from the same period as Angkor Wat. Afterwards, you'll continue to the monuments of Rolous, which served as Indravarman I’s capital. The temples were built by the Khmer and mark the beginning of the age of Khmer classical art.

After breakfast today, you'll discover more of Angkor Wat. In the morning, you'll visit the fabulous Ta Prohm embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers. Then, you'll go to the Pre Rup Temple, East Mebon Temple and Neak Poan Temple. In the afternoon, you'll visit Krovan, Royal Bath of Srah Srang and Banteay Kdei temples.

In the afternoon, you'll have some free time to relax or do some last-minute shopping before you are transferred to Siem Reap International Airport for your departure flight.
