Overview

Head off on a fun eleven-day itinerary featuring several of Japan’s most worthwhile destinations including the Tokyo metropolis, historic Hiroshima, Miyajima Island, the ancient capital Kyoto and the beautiful Hakone National Park near Mount Fuji.

Foodies won’t be disappointed with food tours galore and dinner and lunch options such as a shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine), tours of Japan’s famous markets and even an evening walking tour of Tokyo’s yakitori alleys.

"Yokoso" - Welcome to Japan! After the immigration and entry formalities, you will be greeted by your private English-speaking guide at the arrival lobby at Osaka Kansai Aiport. With your guide, you will transfer to central Osaka by express airport train. After check-in, you will be free to explore the city or relax before starting your adventure.

This morning, you'll check-out from your Osaka accommodation and meet your private guide at the hotel lobby. Together, you'll take the express train bound for Kyoto. With 17 World Heritage Sites and more than 1000 temples, Kyoto is the cultural capital of Japan. With your guide’s help, you'll navigate the bamboo grove and meet Arashiyama’s cute monkeys, visit the superb Tenryu-ji temple, enjoy a vegetarian lunch and a food tour of Kyoto’s kitchen: Nishiki Market.

You'll meet your guide at the hotel and start touring some of Kyoto most popular sites. You'll head to the photogenic Fushimi Inari Shrine and its 1000 red tori gates and walk the old samurai district to Kiyomizu Temple. You'll meet the impressive 1001 Kanon statues at Sanjusangendo Temple and finish the day at Gion district. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see one of those elusive Geishas.

Full Day at Leisure in Kyoto

Today, you'll explore Kyoto at your leisure. The city still has a lot to offer. You can start your day with a Samurai training and learn how to handle a katana (Japanese sword). After the training, you could head to the Nijo Castle and see for yourself how the Japanese lords used to live. You can finish the day with the Golden pavilion and the Stone garden of the Ryoan-ji temple. Another option for day would be a day trip to Himiji Castle (one hour from Kyoto).

Day Trip to Hiroshima from Kyoto

Despite its tragic past, Hiroshima is a very beautiful city to visit and is home of two great World Heritage Sites and one of Japan's three best views. After your arrival in Hiroshima, you can take the short ferry ride to the sacred island of Miyajima. The island's deer will welcome and escort you to the famous floating tori. In the afternoon, you'll return to central Hiroshima and visit the Peace Park and Museum. Before returning to Kyoto, you'll eat the local speciality: Okonomiyaki.

Today, you will head east to Mt Fuji. Symbol of the country, Mt Fuji is part of the Hakone-Izu National park and is known for its natural beauty and hot springs. A private guide will welcome you at Hakone station and you'll visit the unique open-air museum and Owakaduni Hell Valley, where boiling steam comes up from the mountain. You'll cruise on Lake Aishi and pay a visit to the Hakone protective shrine. Tonight, you'll stay at a ryokan, enjoying the hot springs and a kaiseki dinner.

After a traditional Japanese breakfast, you will head to Tokyo, Japan's capital and the world's most populous metropolis. Arriving in Tokyo station, right before lunch, you'll head to “Tokyo Ramen Street” and pick-up your favourite noodle soup between a dozen different options. In the afternoon, you'll visit the eccentric and exiting Shibuya and Harajuku. You'll have a break at Tokyo’s largest shrine: Meiji shrine and finish your day with Tokyo craziest restaurant: The Robot Restaurant.

Today’s guided tour will focus on traditional Tokyo. You'll start the day with a walk around the Imperial Palace gardens before heading to Tsukiji Market. You'll stroll around the alleys and food stalls and pick up some food and have it cooked on the spot. In the afternoon, you'll visit the Asakusa Temple and the sumo museum. After a relaxing break on the Sumida River, you'll head to Shimbashi for a bar and food hopping tour.

Today, you'll explore Tokyo at your leisure. You can spend a relaxing morning at Ueno Park next to one of the most used stations in Tokyo. Not far from here, you will find the Yanaka district, one of the few districts where the old town ambience reminiscent of Tokyo from past decades still survives. To finish on a modern and architectural note, you can head to Odaiba, home of Tokyo's boldest architectural creations, such as the Fuji TV Building, Telecom Center Tokyo Big Sigh and the giant robot.
