Overview

This ten-day trip is perfect to discover three highlights of Peru: the wild Amazon, Machu Picchu and Titicaca Lake. You will spend three days exploring the Amazon and observing its rich fauna and flora.

After emerging from the jungle, you'll travel into the Andes to the Cusco region. Here, you will visit the historic city of Cusco and the numerous ruins in the Sacred Valley. Then you will visit Machu Picchu in the cloud forest, which will be an unforgettable experience.

You will then conclude this trip with a visit to the highest navigable lake in the world and its local communities: Titicaca Lake.

This trip will not disappoint with this combination of amazing highlights across Peru.

Day 1

Welcome to Peru!

Upon arrival, you will be greeted with by an English-speaking company representative at Jorge Chavez Airport in Lima and transferred to the hotel. You will receive your travel documents at the airport. Upon arrival in Lima, you'll check-in and then have the rest of the day free to relax after your journey or head out and explore the city on your own. You may want to head out into the lively Barranco district full of live music bars, art galleries, coffee shops and pretty boutique stores.

Day 2

Today, you'll fly to Puerto Maldonado and take a 40-minute boat trip on the Madre de Dios River to the Corto Maltes Lodge where you will be given a welcome cocktail. After lunch, you will have free time in which to settle into your bungalow or enjoy the pool. Your first encounter with the forest is a hike when you'll see and learn about a large variety of plants, tropical trees, birds, insects, butterflies and other animals. Before dinner, you will go on a boat trip in search of white caimans.

Today, you'll rise early to enter the Tambopata-Candamo National Reserve territory. You'll continue on foot to Lake Sandoval where you will be able to spot giant otters, kingfishers and maybe even caimans and piranhas. Then you'll set off for Monkey Island where several species roam free. You'll visit the Corto Maltes lodge towers, designed for bird watching and observing other species. You will visit a camp of rubber harvesters, one of the most important economic activities in the region.

Day 4

Parrots, Macaws & Fly to Cusco

Very early in the morning, you'll set off to spot the dozens of parrots and macaws that gather at the Colpa de Loros to eat the special clay that can be found here that is indispensable for their metabolism. After breakfast, you'll return to Puerto Maldonado where, if you have time, you will visit the town's fruit market before transferring to the airport. You'll then catch a domestic flight from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco. Upon arrival, you'll have the afternoon to relax or explore.

Today, you have the entire day free to spend as you wish in Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire. It is recommended that you take advantage of Cusco's picturesque cobblestone streets by taking a walk around the city. Strolling around you can discover the many fine examples of Inca engineering in this city and the surrounding region. You can also take advantage of this time to make your last purchases of souvenirs: clothes, jewellery and decorations, the choices are endless in Cusco!

Day 6

Visit the Sacred Valley

Today, you'll travel from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, stopping en route to visit multiple sights. The first stop will be at the ruins of Pisac, one of the main Inca sites, where the different areas are scattered on the mountainside. Then you will take a walk around the handicraft market before taking to the road in the direction of the salt flats of Maras. After visiting the Ollantaytambo Ruins, you'll catch a train to Aguas Calientes, the starting point for your visit to Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city of the fifteenth century in Peru. Abandoned during the collapse of the Inca empire, the sacred city of the Incas was forgotten for centuries. It is considered as a masterpiece of the architecture of this civilisation. It was unveiled by the American archaeologist, Hiram Bingham, in 1911 and today, together with your English-speaking guide, you will start to discover the archaeological complex. After some free time, you'll catch the train back to Cusco.

Today, you'll depart by bus to Puno, the town located on the shores of Lake Titicaca. You'll enjoy wonderful landscapes on this journey including the Raya Pass, at an altitude of 4320 metres. En route, you'll stop many times to visit sights of interest including the Pukara Museum, the archaeological site of Raqchi and the “Sistine Chapel” of the Andes in Andahuaylillas. An English-speaking guide, exclusive to the bus company, will join you on this journey and to the places you stop at.

Explore Titicaca Lake

Explore Titicaca Lake

In the morning, you'll embark on a collective boat tour for the islands of Uros and Taquile. After 25 minutes, you will visit the floating islands which are not natural but were built by the Uros tribe, whose main activity is fishing. You'll then head to Taquile, an island with great cultural interest, whose inhabitants have remained without contact with the outside world for four centuries and have thus preserved their ancestral traditions. In the evening, you'll fly back to Lima.

Today, you'll have some free time in Lima before your onward flight to soak in Peru's culture from the perspective of its capital. You can spend the morning eating good food and venturing out to the districts of Barranco or Miraflores to appreciate some of the artistic sides of the city. When you are ready, a driver will take you to the airport.
