Overview
Discover the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam on this Ayutthaya day trip from Bangkok. You'll hear the tales of palaces filled with gold, lavish ceremonies and decorative monasteries that were the envy of old-world Europe.
You'll journey from Bangkok to the country’s former capital of Ayutthaya by road. This is your chance to escape the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. You'll head a little further north to Ayutthaya to explore the ancient temple ruins and crumbling pagodas that used to form Thailand’s largest and most important settlement.
To begin the day, you'll stop off at Wat Mahathat, located in the centre of what remains of the ancient capital of Ayutthaya home to what is probably the most famous attraction in the ancient city, the head of a Buddha statue lodged into an ancient tree.
After walking the grounds of the Bang Pa-In summer palace, you'll board a boat to cruise back into Bangkok through winding river, past stilt houses markets and temples.

Today, you'll explore the ancient history of Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam and one of the finest cities in the world. After many a battle, the city fell to Burmese invaders and was looted and destroyed. Today, only a few ruins remain as a testament to its grand past. After exploring this amazing city, you'll cruise down the Chao Phraya River watching the world pass you by, arriving in back in Bangkok late in the afternoon, just in time for sunset.
